A true meeting of minds – Lombard Odier and the Carpenters Workshop Gallery founders, Julien Lombrail and Loïc Le Gaillard

Carpenters Workshop Gallery and Lombard Odier have come together as true rethinkers to create an innovative and ground-breaking exhibition at the Ca’d’Oro called DYSFUNCTIONAL. Find out more on why this collaboration is the right fit.
So what’s behind the dynamic duo and founders of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Julien Lombrail and Loïc Le Gaillard? And why did they partner up with Lombard Odier?
The founders of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Julien Lombrail and Loïc Le Gaillard, are French born friends. They have consistently striven to innovate and reshape the design industry. And as born rethinkers, Lombard Odier’s collaboration with them is truly a meeting of minds.
Julien Lombrail and Loïc Le Gaillard have consistently striven to innovate and reshape the design industry.
Their story begins in London, back in 2006. Both men took a great leap into the unknown when they opened up Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Chelsea. And they never looked back. Today the gallery boasts collections from rising and established artists from an array of disciplines, and has spaces in Mayfair and Chelsea, London, New York, Paris and San Francisco. Today they hold a dominating position the international territory of art and design.
Julien Lombrail, from Bordeaux, was 22 years old when his journey began. He helped his mother, renowned sculptor and Carpenters Workshop Gallery artist, Ingrid Donat, negotiate contracts with the famous New York gallery Barry Friedman. In doing this, he spent time at the foundry and followed the production process from beginning to end. And this instilled, in him, his passion in being a part of the evolution of a piece of work, from the artist's reflection to the final object. This idea of the full life cycle resonates with Lombard Odier. A wealth manager since 1706, they protect and preserve their clients’ assets at every stage of their life, for the long term, enabling clients to leave a legacy for the next generation.
The other half of this successful partnership is Loïc Le Gaillard. Born in Paris, he has called London home for over twenty years, having moved there to study business. Having spent a good portion of his career in marketing, he decided, with Lombrail, to open the first gallery in Chelsea.
Le Gaillard said, “It seemed only fitting to name the gallery Carpenters Workshop Gallery, especially since many of the featured handmade functional sculptures were made using artisanal techniques.”
This entrepreneurial spirit still sets them apart today. Lombard Odier support entrepreneurs who aspire to push boundaries. As a patron of the arts, they believe in the preservation, and the ongoing creation of culture, which is at the heart of their collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery and the DYSFUNCTIONAL exhibition.

DYSFUNCTIONAL takes place in the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’d’oro Pallazo where seventeen Carpenters Workshop Gallery artists will create site-specific works that are inspired by the artistic heritage of the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti but transformed using the idiosyncrasies and unmistakable artistic expression of each artist. The DYSFUNCTIONAL exhibition aims to create dialogue between the old and the new. Just as Lombard Odier are buoyed by their longstanding heritage yet continue to stay at the forefront of technology and innovation.
Taking inspiration from architecture, fashion and design, nothing seems to stop them and their expertise and rich savoir-faire has given them the reputation of two international design magnates.
In reality, the birth of the Carpenters Workshop Gallery is above all a story of family and friendship, which is closely aligned with the history of Lombard Odier. A family business, some of Lombard Odier’s partners today are in the seventh generation and the firm has survived 40 crisis using their philosophy of “Rethink Everything” and by developing and maintaining close relationships with their clients, for the long-term.
Le Gaillard and Lombrail, too, offer a different perspective to collectors. They aren’t only design curators, their approach is bespoke. Taking inspiration from architecture, fashion and design, nothing seems to stop them and their expertise and rich savoir-faire has given them the reputation of two international design magnates. They collaborate with the most prominent artists, reach the greatest collectors and their expertise resonates worldwide.
Both Lombard Odier and Carpenters Workshop Gallery, at their essence, are rethinkers. They both have developed expertise by constantly challenging themselves and the world around them. They, both, stepped outside the box, are resolutely dedicated to clients and are focused on providing personalised services to meet their clients’ needs.
