Stuart Haygarth is a British artist and designer who began his career as a photographer. In 2003, his career changed course as he started to explore three-dimensional space through sculpture. However, his photographer’s eye continues to inform his practice. The driving force of his work is its humanity, giving the overlooked a “new significance”. Haygarth’s Strand chandelier for University College Hospitals is made from objects he found washed ashore during his 450-mile coastal walk across the south of England, celebrating that which was once lost or discarded. Many of Haygarth’s works are part of permanent museum collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York; the Design Museum, London; the Usher Gallery, Lincoln; the Craig Robins Collection, Miami; and the David Roberts Collection, London.
